The department offers courses in physics from Form III to Form VI.
Every year, around 60-70 pupils enroll in the Cambridge School Certificate ‘O’ level course while the Higher School Certificate ‘A’ level course steadily attracts around 50-60 pupils.
The SAS physics department figures prominently among the first schools in Mauritius that offered physics courses ‘all the way’ to ‘A’ level.
The popularity of physics as a subject at SAS underscores the high number of pupils who choose to study engineering and medicine at the tertiary level.
The laboratory that dutifully served several generations of students went through a complete overhaul a few years ago and will soon be matched with a junior lab.
The department ranked its pupils top of the list during all the years that Cambridge offered electronics at the ‘O’ level. Quite a few of these pupils went on to study electronic engineering at university and are now professionals in Mauritius and abroad.
