Art is a central part of the school curriculum and is taught at all levels. Students participate in a variety of activities to develop their skills and their understanding of the world around and within them.

We have a long record of students achieving well at SC and attaining strong results at A level.

Our syllabus covers most aspects of design and craft which is sufficient to achieve the high standard, required. It includes painting, drawing, paper folding, glass painting, mosaic, batik, collage, decoupage, and a host of other exciting and interesting activities.

All the pupils in the junior grades do art. Those who choose to do art as SC level do so from form IV. The Senior Art Course is divided into a practical and a theory of art component.

The practical projects at HSC include drawing, painting, pastel, etching and textile printing. Subject matter includes still-life, figure, conceptual and perceptual studies with an emphasis on drawing.

The history of art course at HSC covers architecture, painting and sculpture from the earliest times right through to the present day in both the International and local Mauritian contexts. Each learner also does a history of art project covering a local artist and international artists.

The final HSC art exam consists of a portfolio of practical work plus a practical exam piece. Visual Journals, which record the growth of each practical project from inception to completion, must also be presented.

The St. Andrew’s School art department has been consistently recognized as one of the top Art Departments in the country. In St. Andrew's we have a good range of art facilities which consist of two art rooms, a stockroom, a computer, a  TV set, a slide projector, an overhead projector and other necessary equipments.

We have a highly skilled and experienced team.

Mr. Salim Khodabaccus, who has been working at St Andrew’s for fifteen years is the head of department. Mrs. Fawzia Furzun, with a teaching experience of twenty-one years, teaches up to HSC level. Miss Wendy Sebastien, teacher at St Andrew’s School, since 1999, teaches up to form V.  Miss Diya Teelokee, who joined our department in 2002, teaches in the junior grades.
