Mrs N Congo-Poottaren joined St Andrew’s in March 1994 as an Economics teacher. She holds a BSc (Hons) Economics. In 1997, she completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She also holds a Master of Science in Social Development. She has also pursued studies in the field of human resources and human values.
She strongly believes that knowledge of Economics is essential for survival! She believes that Economics affects all our lives. As rational human beings we try to get the most of our limited resources. When we go shopping, we try to make the best out of our limited income. As citizens of a country we are affected by the decisions taken by the government: its monetary and fiscal policies. We are also affected by decisions taken by other human beings. The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, what we are leaving for future generations, these are all affected by decisions taken by other human beings. She believes that Economics deal with some of the most challenging issues we face. Hence it is a real joy for her to be able to teach Economics.
Forming part of the dynamic teaching staff for Economics and allied Commercial subjects is Mr M.K Sowambur. He holds a B.A (Hons) Economics and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Business Studies). He has been teaching Economics for more than 30 years. To him Economics is becoming popular because of its scope in the present world situation. The subject makes its possible for the young generation to feel the pulse of markets, the economic environment in which firms have to respond. Economics helps any youngster to carry out trend analysis, decision making and forecasting. An economist can detect reasons for failure of business and then prescribe the necessary strategies for firms to thrive and even become profitable. One cannot be an economic cypher in a globalised world. Economics makes it possible for any entity to remain competitive and survive.
The Economics teaching squad includes Mr. BASSIR HEERAH. H e has been teaching Accounts, Commence and Economics for more than 25 years. He holds a Teacher’s Diploma. His utmost desire is to create more interest for the subjects. There is increasing demand for economists and Mr B. Heerah lives to the expectation of making at least some humble contribution for more pupils to become economists, earning their living and contribute to the economic development of the country.
Mr Mario Ah Young forms part of the Economic department of St Andrew’s School. His teaching career started in 1976 at Victoria College. He joined St Andrew’s School in 1981 after a two year full time study at the MIE to obtain a Teacher’s Diploma in Business Studies. His experience has enabled him to cope with all kinds of students.
