Apart from classroom teaching activities we are also encouraging and helping our pupils to take part in various types of literary activities organized at school as well as by other organizations. Some of the recent activities that were held are as follows.

  • The ICAC National Debate Competition 2008. St Andrew’s won this competition for the 2nd. Time in a row. The representatives were Miss Alexandrine Arlapen and Mr. Jonathan Fekna. The latter was also selected as the best speaker of the competition.

In the previous year the school was represented by Miss Varuna Chattooree and Miss Azra F. Galamali.

  • The Debate  competition organized by the Centre for Legal and Business Studies was also won by the school’s representatives  Miss Sabina Ismael and
  • Public Speaking Competition organized by the English Speaking Union and The British Council. Participant  Azra F. Galamali
  • Spelling Bee Competition organized by the British Council.
  • The Model United Nations Conference. Delegations from the school actively took part in this activity in 2007 and 2008. The school’s representatives were among the ten best delegations in the previous year.

At school level the Department organized the following activities for pupils

  • Elocution Contest for LVI pupils. There were sixteen and  fifteen participants in 2007 and 2008 respectively. It has offered the ideal forum for pupils to make their talents known. It is worth mentioning that the first and second speakers in the elocution contest in both years eventually went on to win the ICAC National Debate Competition.
  • General Paper workshops for UVI and LVI pupils. The enthusiastic participation of pupils and active involvement of teachers warrant holding this activity on a regular basis.
  • Dictation test for Forms I & II pupils. A selection was done at class level and the first five took part in the inter-class competition. The top three participants were awarded gifts.

The Department  welcomes any initiative on the part of teachers towards helping pupils in the acquisition and mastery of the subject.
